STEM Students collaborating in the classroom

STEM Education in Northside ISD

Northside ISD’s STEM Education program provides students with hands-on, real-world learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Through inquiry-based instruction, problem solving, and design thinking, students develop critical thinking and collaboration skills that prepare them for future academic and career success.

At the elementary level, each campus has a dedicated STEM lab where students participate in activities and design challenges that spark curiosity and creativity using knowledge from classroom instruction and tied to a variety of STEM careers.

Welcome to the Raba STEM Lab!
I am Mrs. Cummings, the STEM Lab Teacher.

STEM is part of the Discovery rotation. Students will come to the Rattler STEM Lab once every 6 school days. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM is a teaching philosophy that integrates these four subjects in order to offer instruction in real-world applications and teaching methods.

Teamwork is emphasized so students learn to collaborate, communicate, and learn from each other to solve problems and develop critical thinking skills. Lessons are focused on creativity, leadership, engineering, robotics, coding, and digital citizenship. Students are also introduced to different STEM careers to see firsthand how STEM skills are applied in the real world.

There is a great need for STEM-educated students to fill upcoming job openings in the future. By exposing elementary-level students to these skills, we hope to build their confidence in pursuing these occupations. At the very least, these skills will help prepare students for success in life and any other occupation.
