Northside ISD (NISD) has been recognized for academic excellence, with multiple campuses earning top honors in the recent U.S. News & World Report rankings.

After analyzing 103,391 Texas Pre-K, elementary, and middle schools, NISD proudly boasts 14 elementary schools receiving a Best Elementary School award and two middle schools earning a Best Middle Schools award. To receive these accolades, the schools placed among the top 40 percent of all schools in the state.

Recognized Campuses

The NISD schools earning a spot on the "Best" lists are:

  • Best Elementary Schools: Aue, Beard, Blattman, Burke, Carson, Fields, Fisher, Helotes, Los Reyes, McAndrew, Raba, Scobee, Steubing, and Wernli.
  • Best Middle Schools: Folks and Hector Garcia.

“We are extremely proud of these campuses and their accomplishments,” said Dr. John Craft, Superintendent. “To have 16 of our campuses ranked among the best in Texas speaks volumes to the tireless dedication, passion, and talent of our students, staff, and their communities. They are the driving force, ensuring every single child in NISD has access to a high-quality education and are given choices and opportunities where they can thrive.”

Understanding the Rankings

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on a comprehensive methodology that assesses academic performance across all included grade levels.

  • Assessment Focus: Schools were evaluated based on the percentage of students who were proficient or above proficient on their state mathematics and reading/language arts assessments.
  • Socioeconomic Context: The final score is split equally: half is based on the test scores themselves, and the other half incorporates test results in the context of a school's socioeconomic demographics. This means the top-ranked schools are those that are high-achieving and successful at educating all their students, regardless of background.

The rankings are calculated at the state and district levels for distinct elementary and middle school categories. A single zero to 100 overall score is computed for each school, representing its statewide percentile ranking. For example, a school with a score of 55.00 performed better than 55% of all schools in the ranking.
