Mission Statement:
The mission of Construction Careers Academy (CCA) is to provide an advanced and rigorous curriculum with a focus on construction technology, construction management, architectural design, applied engineering and real-world experience that will prepare students for studies in higher education and/or a career in construction related industry.
Furthermore...
Construction Careers Academy (CCA) offers students a practical study of the construction industry through a challenging academic program focused on preparing students for both employment in the construction industry and college. CCA provides rigorous and challenging instruction for construction-related occupations in fields such as carpentry, electrical trades, HVAC, plumbing/pipefitting and welding, architecture, construction management, and engineering. CCA students are provided opportunities to earn industry-recognized credentials through the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER), a Department of Labor apprenticeship program, paid internships with area businesses, and college credit through Dual Credit and Advanced Placement course work.
The Associate Principal also serves as the Campus Behavior Coordinator. They can be reached by email at krista.ackles@nisd.net or by phone at (210) 397-4327.
Welcome Students, Parents and Business Partners! It is going to be another great year at Construction Careers Academy. I love being a part of this amazing program and seeing our students grow right before my eyes into wonderful and confident young adults. Much of how this is accomplished is through the incredible projects we do here on campus. These projects give each student to opportunity to work individually and in teams; to trouble shoot and think critically; and to see the evidence of what they can accomplish with their hands and their minds.
CCA has been my home away from home since it began in the 2009-2010 school year. I have 13 years of residential home construction experience as a Construction Manager/Project Manager, and three additional years as an Estimator/Purchasing Manager prior to coming into education. I proudly bring this experience to CCA along with my many connections in the industry that I maintain.
I am a graduate of NISD: Helotes Elementary, Stevenson Middle School and John Marshall High School. I graduated from UTSA with a degree in Economics, and Lamar University with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. When I am not at CCA you will find me at home, walking the walk with my many remodeling projects that keep me busy.
The success of our students reflects the relationships we have with our parents, our instructors and our business partners. We thank all of you for your continued support!
Welcome to students, parents, and our valued school community. I am glad to be part of a
high-leverage team that believes all students possess the ability to learn and fulfill their most
significant potential. I enjoy the moments we share, watching our students develop and
become valuable assets to our society. The development starts from grade nine through grade
twelve. As students transition through the different stages of educational development on our
campus, they reveal to us how fulfilling it is to transform and prepare the next generation for
the Texas workforce, Military, and College. We develop life-long bonds and create a positive
campus and classroom culture that spills over into the wider school community. Our team of
educators strives to meet all learners' learning, emotional, and psychological needs with equity
and equality.
I am a proud Jamaican who decided to immerse myself in the education system of this
great country. I am married with two fifteen years old girls and a twelve years old son, who are
all enrolled in our district. I attended Edwin Allen Comprehensive High School, earned an
Associate Degree at The Mico Teachers University, and a Bachelor's Degree at the University of
Technology Jamaica. I earned my Master of Educational Leadership Degree at Lamar University
in Texas. This academic year will be my tenth year serving at North-side ISD and twenty-one
years in education. I was awarded campus and district Teacher of the Year 2018 and Harbor
Freight Tools for Schools Fifty-Thousand Dollar Prize winner for Teaching Excellence. I am a
licensed Professional Home Inspector and Noxid Home Inspection Services CEO. I have earned
several other Texas licenses that are industry-based while serving as a Carpentry instructor and
department coordinator. I have an extensive background in the construction trades in Jamaican,
Canada, and the United States. One of my most outstanding achievements was building my own
home. In my spare time, I perform home renovations, keeping current with new trends in an
ever-evolving industry, and I also enjoy hunting and fishing. As our campus Program
Coordinator, I will leverage the skills and business relationships I have acquired over the years to
enhance the development and success of Construction Careers Academy.
