Public and Business Services (PBS) Future Lab 7th/8th grade (#8800) This is a lab- and project-based middle school credit course in which students will participate in experiences that model real-world industries. The goal of this course is to create a foundation for success in high school, future studies, and careers in Business, Industry, and Public Service. Principles of Human Services 8th grade (#8459)-HS Credit This is a lab-and project-based course in which students will participate in experiences that model real -world industries. Students will engage in activities to help prepare for employment in career pathways that relate to families and human needs such as counseling and mental health services, family and community services, personal care services, and consumer services. Students will assess the relationship between health and wellness and personal and professional achievement. Students will study child development and identify the basic needs of children as well as caregiver guidelines that promote safe and healthy child development. Students will explore culinary arts by creating meals according to dietary guidelines and nutrition standards. Students will also engage in the fields of fashion design, interior design, counseling and mental health and family and community services through collaborative activities and real world experiences. This is the FIRST course in the program of study for Early Learning, Teaching and Training and Health and Wellness. Prerequisite: None
Principles of Applied Engineering 8th grade (#8729)-HS Credit This is a lab– and project-based course in which students will participate in experiences that model real-world industries. This high school credit course provides an overview of the various fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and their interrelationships. Students will develop engineering communication skills, which include computer graphics, modeling, and presentations, by using a variety of computer hardware and software applications to complete assignments and projects. Upon completing this course, students will understand the various fields of engineering and will be able to make informed career decisions. Further, students will have worked on a design team to develop a product or system. Students will use multiple software applications to prepare and present course assignments. This is the FIRST course in the program of study for Engineering, Renewable Energy and Robotics. Prerequisite (PR): None
