Phonological Awareness Skill Focus: 

Alliteration, Alphabetic Knowledge

 

Concepts of Print Focus:

Names are capitalized

 

Teacher Action:

Write the morning message emphasizing that the first letter in a name is capitalized. Use alliteration for the name selected to capitalize (Ex. Have a student select a letter link and then include that name in the sentence using alliteration, such as “Mighty Megan is here today.”)

Alliteration

  • Incorporate message board title (ex: “Today is fun Friday.”).
  • Incorporate children’s names and Letter Links (ex: “David donut is at school today.”).
  • Alert children to activities that will happen later in the day (ex: “We will blow bubbles.”).
  • Utilize sentences from nursery rhymes (ex: “Miss Mary Mack is dressed in black.”).
  • Have children think of words that start with the same sound as a word included in the sentence.
  • Alliteration Recognition Video Demonstration (NISD RLA Resource to be used as a teacher reference prior to instruction) 

Alphabet Knowledge 

  • Have children write letters in the air with their fingers.
