Teacher Action:

Write the morning message and demonstrate and discuss appropriate reading behaviors (starting location; left to right movement across print; return sweep). Use simple CVC words and practice blending as the sentence is read aloud. Pair pictures with CVC words for pre-readers.

Onset-Rime

  • Have children guess a mystery word. Using a word from the sentence, the teacher will say the onset, pause, say the rime, and then have children guess what the word is. 

 

Alphabet Knowledge 

  • Have children write letters in the air with their fingers.
  • Have children point to, circle, or write letters.
  • Compare letters (ex: “Let’s find letters with straight lines.” or “These letters all have curves.”).
  • Have children find letters in their name or not in their name.
