Write the morning message varying punctuation each day (period, question, or exclamation point). Use rhyming words in the sentence.

Review: Sentence Structure

 

Teacher Action:

Write the morning message, emphasizing that a sentence is made up of words and spaces. Note the ending punctuation and the use of uppercase and lowercase letters.

Blending & Segmenting Phonemes

  • Call attention to the beginning sound in words included in the morning message sentence. 
  • Have children listen for a certain sound within a word in the sentence.  
  • Teacher will say the sentence once and then choose one word.  Children will guess the mystery word while the teacher says the word phoneme by phoneme. 
  • Models using pictures to identify and blend phonemes into words. 
  • Displays pictures and has the child blend the phonemes to make the word.

Alphabet Knowledge 

  • Have children write letters in the air with their fingers.
  • Have children point to, circle, or write letters.
  • Compare letters (ex: โ€œLetโ€™s find letters with straight lines.โ€ or โ€œThese letters all have curves.โ€).
  • Have children find letters in their name or not in their name.
