Understandings | Describe basic components of psychology including the different perspectives psychologists look at when analyzing human behavior- biological, behavioral, cognitive, sociocultural, humanistic, and psychodynamic.
Students will explore the basic scientific characteristics of psychological studies such as the scientific method, standard deviation, mean, and median. | Students will describe the various biological and anatomical parts of the brain and their contribution to the development of the human psyche.
| Students will focus on understanding the psychological influences of individual development from birth to maturation to death, analyzing how factors such as family and education and social norms influence psychological development.
Students will analyze the different viewpoints on psychosocial development such as Piaget and Eriksonโs theories. | Students will explore the various mental behaviors that are viewed as abnormal.
Students will explore key concepts of social psychology including how bias shapes interactions between individuals in society. | Students will be able to describe how conditioning and memory development leads to learning as well as the theories behind learning such as B.F. Skinner and John Watson.
Students will analyze how memory is created based on experiences and explain the differences between long-term and short term memory. | Students will be able to identify the various quantitative and qualitative metrics of intelligence and understand how these metrics shape human development.
Students will be able to identify the characteristics and development of personality.
Students will be able to trace the biological and cultural factors that influence emotion and motivation. |
