Understandings | Students will identify the foundational roots of sociology and the study of societies.
Students will identify the various characteristics about society. | Students will be able to identify and categorize the various components that define a society’s culture.
Students will analyze key characteristics about American social culture. | Students will be able to describe the process of socialization and analyze how socialization has evolved over time.
Students will be able to describe the characteristics of development in adolescents and its important role in socialization for teenagers.
Students will describe how biological factors impact personality development and analyze the role of that development in adult socialization. | Students will examine the influences of family, religion, and education on socialization practices around the world.
Students will analyze differing theories on education and their role in the development of socialization patterns in various global societies. | Students will identify examples of deviant behaviors as well as the social causes of deviance.
Students will analyze the relationship between social stratification and socialization, particularly in relation to social deviance.
Students will analyze various ways that social stratification impacts the socialization of members of various groups to include factors such as race, ethnicity, and economic background. | Students will analyze how demographic changes can significantly impact a society over time.
Students will trace the impacts of demographic and economic changes and changes in societies using historical and contemporary examples. |
