Clinical Teaching

Clinical Teacher Placements

Clinical Teacher placements for students in universities, as well as to selected alternative certification programs.

University Professors and Alternative Certification Program Coordinators

The Northside ISD Office of Professional Learning must approve all requests for university clinical teacher placements.

  • Universities will submit the Clinical Teacher Placement list as an email attachment. Submit one spreadsheet will ALL candidates. Please do not include any confidential student data (DOB or SSN) on the spreadsheet. Reference District Calendar for start and end dates.
  • Direct each student to the on-line Practicum Agreement/Criminal History Authorization request and Acceptable Use Policy. No paper forms will be accepted. Due to COVID-19, allow one week for processing.
Note: Criminal background checks will remain in effect until the end of the current academic school year.
  • All university students must clear the criminal history check before receiving their clinical teacher assignment.
  • Universities will notify teacher candidates of their assignments.
  • Northside ISD no longer provides a comp day for mentor teachers.  Over the past two years, universities have implemented a co-teach model in which clinical teachers co-plan and co-instruct throughout the semester with their mentor.  With the implementation of the co-teach structures, a compensation day is no longer granted by the district.
  • Download Clinical Teacher Placement Request. Return the completed form to Jenny.Yim@nisd.net, Office of Professional Learning.
  • Indicate if candidates require a dual placement in their field of study; a co-teaching classroom; and/or if they will be completing the edTPA portfolio assessment.
