Thomas Mackey - Principal
My name is Thomas Mackey and I am so excited to be named as the first principal at Henderson Elementary. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful learning community. During my 29 years as an educator, I taught fourth and fifth grades at Brauchle Elementary in NISD, served as Vice Principal at Burke Elementary for four years, and principal at Fernandez Elementary for six years.

It continues to be a fulfilling experience to work with such an outstanding staff, excellent students and a supportive and generous community. We are also fortunate to have a wonderful school namesake Dr. Patricia Henderson who is actively involved in the school.

Our goals at Henderson Elementary are to give students the very finest academic instruction, and to help students become responsible, caring, trustworthy, and well educated individuals. We feel that an established partnership between students, parents, staff, and community members helps to achieve both.

We encourage families to find a little time each day to work together on schoolwork and for parents to stay involved in their child's education. We also invite you to share any comments, concerns, suggestions for improvement, and celebrations as we strive to continue our successful ways.

It is my pleasure to continue to serve as Associate Principal this year. This is my sixth year in educational leadership, and each year brings with it new cherished memories. Prior to becoming an associate principal, I was a classroom teacher for a total of 13 years in kindergarten, third grade, and special education.

Being a part of the Henderson Elementary family has been a great privilege. Henderson has an abundance of talented teachers and faculty members. We work together as a team to put our wonderful students, families, and community first. My goal is to continue to provide and foster a supportive climate and culture at Henderson that is conducive to teaching and learning and that meets the needs of all students.

Kind Regards,
Lillyana Hinojosa
