Legal issues in hiring

Colleges and Universities

Degrees and transcripts submitted to NISD for review must be granted from colleges and universities accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Other colleges are not recognized for hiring and salary assignment purposes.

Fingerprinting

Texas law requires that all prospective school employees submit to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check and be cleared for employment.

If you are offered a position in a Texas school district, you will be required to pay a non-refundable fee to submit a fingerprint supported criminal background check prior to beginning employment. If you have already been fingerprinted by L1-ESD for either TEA-Certifed or TEA-Non-certified purposes, then you may be exempt from this requirement. Fingerprinting performed by other entities or agencies will not be accepted.

Disclosure of Social Security Numbers

Northside is a public entity. Your application is considered a public document and is subject to disclosure, upon request, whether you apply with a paper document or through the on-line process.

You will be asked to provide your social security number as part of the employment process with Northside Independent School District . In accordance with the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, 5 USC 552 (a), disclosure of your social security number is optional except for purposes of reporting wages and taxes; however failure to provide this information may result in processing delays if we have multiple applicants with the similar last name.

Should you choose to disclose your social security number for reasons other than receiving wages and withholding taxes, Northside ISD would utilize your social security number for the following reasons:

  1. Submission to the Safe Schools Project for the purpose of performing mandatory criminal background checks,
  2. submission to the Texas State Board for Educator Certification for the purpose of verifying professional status or other licensure status, and
  3. submission to the Human Resources Management System for the purpose of managing employment and benefit enrollment information.

Should Northside ISD require your social security number for any purposes not listed above, HR will obtain your consent before utilizing the number.
