Community Volunteers Requested for Women in STEM Expo

Calling all STEM professionals, college students, and community partners!
Join us in inspiring the next generation of scientists, engineers, technologists, and problem-solvers.

On March 24, 5:30-7:00 PM Jones will host their 2nd Annual Women in STEM Expo, an event designed to inspire both girls and boys by exposing them to the wide, powerful world of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Through hands-on activities, visuals, demonstrations, and interactive presentations, students will explore how STEM careers shape our world—and how they can be part of it.

Presenters and volunteers of all genders are invited to help bring STEM to life. Whether you lead a hands-on experiment, showcase real-world technology, share your career journey, or create a visually engaging display, your passion can help students imagine what’s possible.

This event celebrates innovation, creativity, and representation—highlighting the impact of women in STEM while welcoming allies who help open doors and lift others up. Together, we’ll encourage students to think bigger, dream bolder, and defy gravity as they explore future STEM pathways. Volunteers can reach out with out online application today!

Magnet School Applications OPEN NOW!

Applications for Northside's magnet middle schools and magnet high schools are open NOW. This year's application window closes on January 23. Families can apply for middle school and high school magnet programs at https://nisd.net/magnets.

  • Current 8th grade students are invited to explore their high school options. Students at Jones STEM are granted automatic admission to the Science & Engineering Academy at Jay High School. If Jones STEM students want to attend Jay SEA, they do not need to complete an application. A seat is already reserved for them. If 8th graders are interested in other magnet high school options, they should complete the magnet application at https://nisd.net/magnets.
  • Current Jones STEM 6th & 7th graders do not need to re-apply. Enrollment is continuous.
  • Current 5th grade students are invited to apply to Northside's magnet middle schools. There are now FIVE magnet programs for middle school students. These programs accept students outside of the school district. Cluster bus route transportation is provided within the district's boundaries.

Families can learn about all of Northside's magnet programs at our final magnet fair:

  • Monday, December 8, at the Northside Activity Center and Paul Taylor Field House, from 6:30 - 8:00

Applying to UTSA Prep? Let us help

UTSA hosts a summer program for current 6th graders through 11th grade. The program focuses on engineer and design. We typically have a large number of Jones STEM Magnet students involved in UTSA PREP. Applications are open NOW through February 14. Northside ISD covers some of the cost of the program, making the cost $250 for Northside families.

You can learn more and apply at: https://klesse.utsa.edu/prep/

The application requires some documents from the school. If you contact the STEM office, we will help you secure:

  • A conduct letter from the school.
  • An unofficial transcript from the counseling office.
  • Email addresses for your student's math & science teachers (for the reference forms).
