Everyone at Jones STEM Magnet and Jones Middle School is very excited about this school year. We hope everyone had a safe and happy summer. We saw several of our Cougar families at a Missions baseball game in June. Campus has already been active with teachers planning for the year and student camps getting a jump start on the school year. We cannot wait to welcome back our students on August 10 for the first day of school. There are a few updates for the new school year, and we are always here to assist and answer any questions.

School begins at 8:40. We open the campus at 7:45. Breakfast and lunch is available to all students. On the first day of school, we will post a list of ALL students' first period classes. Once students report to first period, they will receive a copy of their schedule for the remainder of the day.

This year's bus routes are scheduled to be published on Monday, August 3, if your family opted in to bus transportation for the 2026-27 school year. The earliest place to view these bus routes will be in the Northside bus app called "Here Comes the Bus." You can learn about this app, including how to add it to your phone and how to create your account at this website: https://www.nisd.net/schools/buses/here-comes-the-bus

This year, students will enter their ID number as they board the bus, and students will wear seat belts on any buses that are equipped with belts.

Please take note of Principal Lazo's newsletter that addresses campus events and policies. There are some updated expectations this year:

• Students should leave stuffed animals at home.
• students should not wear animal ears/tails/paws at school.

Here are few highlights from Principal Lazo's newsletter:

• Open Houses - We invite families to attend our open houses on August 4 (7th & 8th grades) and August 6 (6th grade). Students will get a temporary copy of their schedule. We welcome you to tour campus, meet teachers, buy spirit gear (cash only), and get information from the nurse, CIS, SE and 504, transportation, and other stations. We will also have permission slips for our academic field trips ready to distribute at open house. ALL students will receive an updated schedule on the first day of school.
• Dress Code - Jones Middle School follows the NISD dress code for secondary campuses. 
  • No slides/sandals (Crocs are ok)
  • Shirts must have sleeves and cover the midriff
  • No pajama pants
  • Any holes must be below the knee
  • No hats/hoods/beanies worn indoors
  • Shorts are no more than 4 inches above the knee
• School Supplies - Jones Middle School provides many school supplies. Please have your student prepared for class with writing paper and writing tools. Teachers may have individual lists when school begins, but they will be minimal. STEM students are provided engineering design notebooks.
