De Ann Upright
De’Ann Upright - Principal
I am De’Ann Upright, the PROUD Principal of Dr. Sara B. McAndrew Elementary School. Prior to its opening in 2013, I had the opportunity to teach and lead at various campuses; all in Northside Independent School District.
I began my career in 1990 at John Glenn Elementary School where I taught physical education and then transferred to the classroom as a third grade teacher/social studies facilitator/team leader. After 14 years I had the opportunity to open Ward Elementary School as a third grade teacher/science facilitator. I was hired as the Vice-Principal at Raba Elementary School in 2004 and after 4 years I was hired as the Principal at Powell Elementary School where I served through 2013.
I am a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio and have my Master degree from Texas A&M, Kingsville.
I have 30 plus years in education, going strong and loving what I do!

Teaching has always been in my blood. I come from a long line of educators. From my grandpa on my dad's side as a Principal at an Elementary school in Bryan, Tx, to both of my parents retiring from the teaching field, I have followed their footsteps. I began my career teaching Special Education at Forbes Middle School in Georgetown, Tx, then moving to my hometown of Marble Falls where I taught at the Middle School ALE unit for 2 years before moving to San Antonio. Both my husband and I moved to San Antonio in 2006 to work for Northside ISD. We both were hired at O'Connor High School where I taught Applied Algebra for 7 years in the special education department. I also coached cheer for 4 years during my time there. I helped open McAndrew Elementary as the Special Education Coordinator in 2013. In Feb 2016 I moved up as the Vice Principal at McAndrew!.
