English as Second Language (ESL) content-based program
The NISD ESL content-based program in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade provides intensive instruction using second language acquisition strategies to teach English to students who speak other languages other than Spanish or English. The academic program model teaches the state-required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Newcomer ESL content-based program
The NISD Elementary Newcomer ESL content-based program provides a specially designed curriculum that helps acculturate recent immigrant English learners to their new country, new school, and new language within a safe, supportive environment.
Transitional Bilingual academic program
The NISD Transitional Bilingual academic program model teaches the state required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The research-based program uses the child’s primary language for instruction as he or she learns the second language (English) and achieves academic success.
