Art Student Hands Creating Letter 'F' from Paper Mache

Project A.C.O.R.N./Gardening Club

Laura Zamora, Victoria Diaz, Melissa Cherry, & Leigh Tidwell

The goals of Project ACORN are to improve environmental literacy for participating PreK - 8th grade students through hands-on, inquiry-based science activities and to increase community involvement in environmental science activities by addressing plant biodiversity in the San Antonio River watershed.

Our Garden Club plants, maintains, and harvests vegetables from our vegetable garden through an after school club.  We have a pollinator and waystation garden to help maintain our diverse ecosystem. We collect basic atmospheric data and enter it into the GLOBE website.  We have several bird feeders and a water station to contribute to scientific knowledge of bird populations. Our Garden Club participated in a field experience at Cibolo Nature Center in November through our Project Feeder grant.

We look forward to having a Community Event in the spring to showcase all the hard work of our students and sponsors!
