In Northside, we follow a balanced literacy framework that includes the explicit and systematic teaching of foundational literacy skills. The instructional components within our balanced literacy framework promote the gradual release of responsibility from teacher to student. Our students engage in literacy learning during read alouds of mentor texts, shared and performance reading/writing, mini lessons, small group instruction, and independent reading/writing.
Michael ES Reading Specialist
The Reading Specialist works with administrators, classroom teachers, campus support staff and central office instructional and support staff to plan and implement quality reading instruction as well as interventions for at-risk students in need of support and students with dyslexia. The Reading Specialist also provides reading and language arts staff development on the campus, evaluates students to determine reading strengths and weaknesses, and plans and implements programming for parent involvement and family reading.
