NISD Statement regarding Immigration Enforcement Concerns

Northside Independent School District (NISD) is dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming, and non-discriminatory learning environment for all students, regardless of citizenship status.

In accordance with state and federal law and Board Policy GRA, the district follows specific protocols when law enforcement officers or other lawful authorities request to question or interview a student at school for any purpose other than a child abuse investigation:

• Verification: A campus administrator and/or NISD Police Officer will verify the officer’s identity and document the reason for the visit.
• Parental Notification: The principal, or administrator, will make all reasonable efforts to notify the child’s parent/guardian of the visit.
• Staff Presence: A district designee will typically be present during questioning unless the interviewer provides a valid legal objection.

While there have been no Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) visits to any NISD facility to date, the District will consult legal counsel on any immigration-related inquiries to ensure full compliance with established legal protections.

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de Northside (NISD) se dedica a proporcionar un entorno de aprendizaje seguro, acogedor y no discriminatorio para todos los estudiantes, independientemente de su estatus de ciudadanía.

De acuerdo con las leyes estatales y federales y la Política de la Mesa Directiva GRA, el distrito sigue protocolos específicos cuando los oficiales de la ley u otras autoridades legales solicitan interrogar o entrevistar a un estudiante en la escuela por cualquier motivo que no sea una investigación de abuso infantil:

• Verificación: Un administrador del plantel y/o un oficial de policía de NISD verificará la identidad del oficial y documentará el motivo de la visita.
• Notificación a los padres: El director o administrador realizará todos los esfuerzos razonables para notificar al padre o tutor del niño sobre la visita.
• Presencia del personal: Un designado del distrito estará típicamente presente durante el interrogatorio, a menos que el entrevistador presente una objeción legal válida.

Aunque hasta la fecha no se han producido visitas del Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE) a ninguna instalación de NISD, el Distrito consultará con asesores legales sobre cualquier consulta relacionada con la inmigración para garantizar el cumplimiento total de las protecciones legales establecidas.
