A Message from Our Interim Superintendent about Recent Election

Dear Northside Community,

As we reflect on the results of the VATRE and Bond election, I want to begin by thanking everyone who took the time to learn about the propositions, ask questions, share information, and make their voices heard. While the outcome was not what we had hoped for, our responsibility and commitment to our students, staff, and families have not changed.

At the same time, we recognize that the needs we brought forward through these four propositions remain. Our schools continue to need facility improvements, safety and security upgrades, transportation resources, and thoughtful long-term planning. These are important needs that we must continue to address as we look at the future of our district and the resources available to us.

The outcome also presents significant challenges when it comes to teacher and staff compensation. One of the primary goals of the VATRE was to provide sustainable funding to help us recruit and retain outstanding teachers and staff and recognize the important work they do for our students every day. Without this additional funding, the Board of Trustees and I must now work through some difficult decisions as we balance our budget while continuing to support and value the people who make Northside such a special place.

As we move forward and evaluate our next steps, we’re focused on good stewardship and engagement—making responsible, thoughtful budget choices so we can continue supporting our students, staff, and programs that make our schools great.

Thank you once again for your partnership and your ongoing commitment to NISD. Though we have challenging work ahead, I am confident that by working together, we will move NISD forward.
