Northside ISD Honors Legendary Athletes, Coaches, and Teams with 2026 Hall of Honor Induction; tickets now on sale

Northside ISD proudly unveils its 2026 Athletics Hall of Honor class, celebrating a remarkable group of athletes, coaches, teams, and community leaders whose excellence, leadership, and lasting impact have shaped the district’s proud athletic legacy.

The 2026 Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, July 24, at the Northside Sports Gym (8400 N Loop 1604 West, San Antonio, TX 78249). The ceremony begins at 6 p.m., followed by a reception honoring the inductees.

The 2026 NISD Athletics Hall of Honor Inductees are:

  • Rita Crockett:  A graduate of Marshall HS, Crockett is regarded as one of the greatest all-around volleyball players in history. Known by her nickname "The Rocket," she dominated both indoor and beach volleyball in the 1980s and 1990s. Crockett was a silver medalist at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. 
     
  • Charles “Bo” Outlaw:  Outlaw is a former professional basketball player and an alumnus of John Jay HS. He enjoyed a highly respected 15-year career in the NBA playing for the Clippers, Magic, Suns, and Grizzlies. He was widely celebrated for his relentless hustle, elite defensive versatility, shot-blocking ability, and infectious positive attitude. 
     
  • Boone Logan: Logan is a former Major League Baseball relief pitcher and O’Connor HS graduate known for his longevity, consistency, and effectiveness as a left-handed specialist. He played 12 seasons at the Major League level and over his career, appeared in more than 600 games and recorded 479 strikeouts.
     
  • Josh Reynolds: A graduate of John Jay HS, Reynolds’ grit and perseverance served him well to carve out a productive and long-standing professional career. From an unranked recruit out of John Jay High School to a veteran who has caught passes in the Super Bowl, Reynolds has repeatedly proved that pedigree doesn't dictate your ceiling—your work ethic does. Reynolds played with the Los Angeles Rams, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, and New York Jets. 
     
  • 1991 Jay Mustangs Volleyball Team: The Mustangs were a force of nature in 1991. The team dominated local and regional competition to punch their very first ticket to the state tournament in Austin. Under the guidance of Head Coach Ann Krueger, the 1991 Mustangs put together an iconic season that kicked off a historic four-year run of consecutive state tournament appearances.
     
  • 2003 Clark Cougars Volleyball Team: The Clark HS Cougars volleyball team put together one of the most dominant and historic seasons in Texas high school volleyball. Led by Head Coach Kirby Jameson, the Cougars captured the UIL Class 5A State Championship (which was the highest classification in Texas at the time). This marked the program’s second state volleyball title.
     
  • Gary Malesky: Coach Gary Malesky was a highly respected and successful head football coach, becoming the head coach at Holmes High School in 1978 and compiling a coaching record of 141-49-5, including six NISD district championships. Coach Malesky built a significant legacy in San Antonio high school football, impacting many players and serving as an administrator with Northside ISD after coaching.  
     
  • Romy Vela: Coach Romeo "Romy" Vela defined the early 2000s for Jay Boys Basketball. Coach Vela spent 9 seasons at John Jay (1998–2007), racking up a stellar 201-101 record. He is most famous for orchestrating what is widely considered the most thrilling, cinematic finish in Texas high school basketball history.
     
  • Dr. John Folks:  A champion for children, Dr. Folks was at the helm of Northside ISD as its Superintendent from 2002 to 2012. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades for his leadership and advocacy for public education, including being named the 2011 Texas Superintendent of the Year by the Texas Association of School Boards.
