January is School Board Recognition Month, and Northside ISD proudly joins the Texas Association of School Boards and more than 1,026 school districts across Texas in honoring the dedicated service of locally elected trustees. The month also serves as an opportunity to educate the community about the vital role school boards play in shaping the lives of students and strengthening communities.
While January offers a special moment of appreciation, Superintendent Dr. John Craft emphasized that school board service is a year-round commitment. “Our trustees are ultimate volunteers who devote countless hours to ensuring every decision keeps students at the center,” said Craft. “Their leadership and dedication help guide the future of public education in Northside ISD and across our community.”
This year’s theme, “Our Future is Public,” is especially fitting, as trustees play an essential role in setting the vision and direction for the District’s continued success.
The Northside ISD Board of Trustees includes:
- David Salcido, Board Secretary, District 1
- Sonia Jasso, Ph.D., Board Vice President, District 2
- Karla Duran, Ph.D., Board President, District 3
- Robert (Bobby) Blount, Jr., District 4
- Laura Zapata, Trustee, District 5
- Carol Harle, Ph.D., Trustee, District 6
- Karen Freeman, Trustee, District 7
NISD trustees were formally recognized for their service during the regular Board meeting on January 20.
