Thousands of Northside students to eat free this year

Thousands of students at 76 Northside ISD schools will receive free breakfast and lunch this coming school year thanks to the federal Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act which will provide the financial support needed, according to Dr. John Craft, superintendent.

NISD schools that qualify under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) will provide breakfast and lunch to ALL children at no charge and eliminate the collection of meal applications for free and reduced-price meals.

“This approach ensures that students receive nutritious meals every day and reduces the administrative burden for qualifying students for meal assistance,” says Craft. “We are very happy to be able to do this for the students attending the qualifying schools because well-fed children learn better.”

Students who need assistance at the other Northside schools may also apply for free or reduced-price meals. For additional information, contact the NISD Free and Reduced Program Office at 210-397-4517.
