On the cover: Scobee Challengers are having a blast with math! Students at Scobee Elementary School celebrated their ST Math Launch Day with a "dress like a penguin" day, fun activities to get students excited about ST Math, and visits from Ji Ji, the ST Math penguin. The Challengers are excited to "waddle" their way into being math experts with the help of Ji Ji and ST Math.
Northside ISD is proud to join the nationwide Attendance Awareness Campaign this September, reaffirming our commitment to reducing chronic absenteeism and supporting student success.
“September is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on attendance,” said Kathy Lyssy, Director of the Office of Student Advocacy and School Choice. “When we address absences early—both in the school year and in a child’s academic journey—we have the power to positively shape their path toward success in both attendance and achievement.”

The H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards celebrate exceptional public school professionals while expressing gratitude for their dedication and commitment. This program honors educators who go above and beyond each day to serve their students and communities—and who inspire others to do the same.
Award categories include teachers, principals, school counselors, school districts, school boards, and early childhood centers. In 2024, H-E-B awarded more than $780,000 in cash prizes and grants to outstanding educators and schools across Texas. Nominations are now open through Sept. 30.

NISD STEM teacher among best in San Antonio
Karen Conner, a STEM teacher at Kuentz and Los Reyes elementary schools, was told by Kuentz Principal Lindsey Christian that a crew from NISD Media Production would be coming to take some video for the district's marketing materials. But that was all a ruse.
