I hope you’ve all had an Ott-some summer and are tuning up for the start of our 2025–2026 World Tour! Our Ott Rock Stars have been soaking up the summer, but they’ve also been backstage preparing for an epic year, setting up classrooms, planning with their PLC bands, and attending summer PD sessions to sharpen their skills. We can’t wait to hit the stage and welcome our students back!

We’ll officially kick off our #OttWorldTour at our first Spirit Rally on September 5th, and we hope to see many of you there to help us rock the start of the school year! 🎸🎤 Much love to our Ott Branding Team for bringing this year’s theme to life and designing our amazing school spirit shirts. Their creativity and energy has set the stage for another Ott-some year!

This summer, our Campus Leadership Team came together to collaboratively develop data-driven goals for our Campus Improvement Plan. The day was filled with meaningful discussion and strategic planning, all with a clear focus on meeting the needs of our students. The work was intentional, thoughtful, and designed to ensure a strong start to the new school year.

Our campus goals this year reflect our belief in the power of a Growth Mindset, with a strong focus on student growth in reading, math, science, improved student discipline, and increasing our daily attendance rates. While our staff is fully committed to our Campus Improvement Plan, we know that student success is a team effort, and we can’t do it without you. Your partnership is key to helping us achieve these goals.
Here’s how you can support from home:
📚 Encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes each day
➗ Help them practice age-appropriate math facts regularly
🧠 Remind them to be respectful and follow school rules
⏰ Make sure they arrive on time each day, ready to learn

In the coming weeks, our teachers will begin capturing baseline MAP data in math and reading for students in grades K–5. This data helps us create targeted academic plans to address individual learning needs, whether to close learning gaps or provide classroom enrichment. Teachers will share your child’s data and progress, but please feel free to reach out sooner if you have questions about academics or MAP testing. MAP will be administered three times this year, beginning, middle, and end, to help us monitor student growth and adjust instruction as needed.

The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority at Ott Elementary. Over the past few years, we’ve taken thoughtful steps to implement a comprehensive safety plan designed to ensure our school continues to be a safe and supportive environment for learning.

Just as we regularly practice fire drills to ensure students know how to respond in an emergency, we also conduct lockdown drills to prepare for other types of emergency situations. These drills help students and staff understand their roles and responsibilities and build confidence in how to respond quickly and appropriately. Lockdown drills will be conducted periodically throughout the year as part of our ongoing efforts to support campus safety and ensure readiness in the event of a real emergency.

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, please remember the following procedures when visiting campus:
🔹 All visitors must enter through the security lobby and check in at the front office.
🔹 A valid photo I.D. is required and will be scanned through our Raptor system before a visitor badge is issued.
🔹 All visitors must wear their badge visibly at all times while on campus.
🔹 For families joining students for breakfast or lunch, please note:
Parents will be asked to dine in a designated alternative location rather than the main cafeteria.
Lunch visits are limited to your child only; peer friends will not be permitted to join.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all. At Northside ISD, student safety is a top priority. Families can learn more about the district’s safety protocols and updates for this academic year by visiting the NISD Safety Website. As a reminder, all volunteers must complete a background check annually through NISD. This is required for anyone wishing to volunteer on campus or attend field trips. Please note that the beginning of the school year brings a high volume of submissions, which may cause delays in processing. We strongly encourage families to complete the background check as soon as possible to avoid any disruptions to volunteer opportunities.

Each Friday, the class with the highest spirit shirt participation will earn the honorary Spirit Stick to proudly display in their classroom until the following week.

Howdy Trailblazers!

My name is Alyssa Delagarza, and I am the Associate Principal of Ott Elementary!

I am a proud product of NISD, having attended all Northside schools growing up here in San Antonio. I have two young children, and they plan to attend Northside schools. My educational career has been serving as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teacher, all of which were in NISD.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Math and Science from Texas A&M University at College Station and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce.

I entered the world of education because I truly believe that we can make a difference in the world by shaping the young minds of our students. By providing a structured, yet nurturing environment, I encourage all children to reach their maximum potential.

I love working with the staff, students and families here at Ott Elementary!!! I cannot wait to see what this year has in store!

Thanks and Gig'em,
AP Delagarza
