Understandings

Students focus on studio routines, materials/safety, elements of art and principles of design, and pre-assessments.

 Students will compare and contrast the elements of art and principles of design. 

 Students will analyze visual characteristics of sources to illustrate concepts, demonstrate flexibility in solving problems, create multiple solutions, and think imaginatively.

Students will analyze personal artwork in order to create written responses reflecting intent, inspiration, elements and principles, and originality.

Select and analyze original artwork, portfolios, and exhibitions to demonstrate innovation and provide examples of in-depth exploration.

Collaborate on community-based art projects

The student develops and expands visual literacy skills through analyzing visual characteristics of sources and exploring the suitability of art media in various processes. 

 Students will compare and contrast the elements of art and principles of design.

Students explore concepts and ideas from a variety of sources to create original artwork, effectively using a variety of drawing media to communicate ideas.

The student demonstrates an understanding of art history and culture by researching, analyzing, and distinguishing correlation between  artistic styles, historical periods, and a variety of cultures using description,comparison and contrast, and collaborative practice.

The student responds to and analyzes artworks of self and others, contributing to the development of the lifelong skills of making informed judgments and reasoned evaluations.Students will make evaluations and judgments based on developmental progress, competency in problem solving and a variety of visual ideas.
