Understandings

• Routine Organizational Tool checks; refining the "focused note-taking" process with a focus on Phase 2 (Processing).

• Strengthening the "Pre-Work" on the TRF; learning to articulate the "Point of Confusion" clearly.

• Introduction to "Time Mapping" and balancing extracurriculars with increased middle school rigor.

• Lessons on neuroplasticity and overcoming academic "roadblocks."

• Mastering Level 2 (Processing) and Level 3 (Applying) questions; using them in both TRFs and class discussions.

• "Marking the Text" with a focus on "Thinking Notes" (symbols/annotations in the margins).

• Participating in inner/outer circle discussions with a focus on "Building on the ideas of others."

• Developing a "Personal Academic Word Wall" based on root words and affixes.

Ongoing Activities

• Monday/Wednesday: AVID Curriculum (Organization, Reading, Writing Lessons).

• Tuesday/Thursday: Tutorials (Heavy focus on the "Process" and TRF quality).

• Friday: Teambuilding,Organizational Tools Checks, and Learning Logs.

• Learning to use "Boolean Operators" (AND, OR, NOT) for better search results; identifying primary vs. secondary sources.

• Writing short comparative responses using evidence from two different texts.

• Engaging in "Tug-of-War" style debates where students must use textual evidence to justify their "side."

• Introduction to the "College Pendulum"—balancing interests, location, and potential majors.

• Selecting "Artifacts of Growth" for the year-end digital portfolio; writing a self-assessment on WICOR growth.

• Delivering a "Poetry Out Loud" or "Speech of Information" to build presence and confidence.

• Identifying a local need and proposing a collaborative service project.

• Setting specific goals for "Pre-Algebra" or "Advanced Science" pathways.
