Fall Semester
Unit Title	The Transition Mindset Strengthening the Foundation for High School	Communication & Community Developing a Scholarly Voice
Time	9 weeks	9 weeks
Understandings	• Mastery of the organizational tool; refining the use of the planner for long-term project management. • Introduction to the "Point of Confusion" (POC) in Tutorials; moving from asking questions to facilitating group thought. • Transitioning from "Copying" to "Processing" notes; focus on the 10-2-4 rule (10 mins note-taking, 2 mins processing, 4 mins summarizing). • Analyzing high school graduation requirements and GPA impact.	• Formal speeches (60-second speeches, Shark Tank style pitches); focus on eye contact and vocal inflection. • Using "The Fishbowl" method to observe and critique academic dialogue. • Introduction to "Clusters" and "Endorsements" to help plan 9th-grade elective choices. • Working in "Design Teams" to solve real-world problems.
Ongoing Activities	• Monday/Wednesday: AVID Curriculum (Organization, Reading, Writing Lessons). • Tuesday/Thursday: Tutorials (Heavy focus on the "Process" and TRF quality). • Friday: Teambuilding,Organizational Tools Checks, and Learning Logs.

Spring Semester
Unit Title	Reading, Writing, & Research Evidence-Based Thinking	The Bridge to High School Leaving a Legacy & Looking Ahead
Time	9 weeks	9 weeks
Understandings	• Mastering "Marking the Text" with a focus on identifying the author's claim and supporting evidence. • Writing a 5-paragraph essay that synthesizes information from two different sources. • Engaging in debates regarding school-wide or community issues using evidence-based claims. • Understanding why we cite; introduction to the Works Cited page.	• Finalizing the Middle School AVID Portfolio; reflecting on growth from 6th to 8th grade. • Individual counseling for 9th-grade registration; identifying "Pre-AP" or Honors pathways. • Organizing an 8th-grade "Legacy Project" (e.g., campus cleanup, mentoring 6th graders). • Virtual field trips to local universities; identifying "Dream Colleges."
