  • Goal setting for GPA/Rank (short term/long term goals); mastering the "Inquiry" level of Cornell Notes; rigorous Tutorial participation.
  • PSAT/SAT/ACT prep; analyzing question stems; practicing timed writing and reading passages.
  • Engaging in high-level Socratic Seminars on complex texts; refining Philosophical Chairs techniques.
  • Building a preliminary list of 10 colleges; exploring college websites for admission requirements.
  • Initiating the Junior Research Paper; conducting database searches; evaluating source credibility.
  • Drafting a professional resume; practicing elevator pitches; Mock Interviews with peers or staff.
  • Virtual or in-person college visits; attending college fairs; beginning the "Brag Sheet."
  • Understanding the "Sticker Price" vs. "Net Price"; introduction to scholarship types and merit aid.

  • Taking the SAT/ACT; analyzing results to identify areas for improvement before senior year.
  • Reading and annotating complex academic journals and college-level expository texts.
  • Planning and leading a service-learning project or a campus-wide AVID awareness event.
  • Finalizing the Junior ePortfolio; organizing evidence of WICOR strategies used throughout the year.
  • Identifying summer enrichment programs, internships, or volunteer work to bolster applications.
  • Leading Collaborative Study Groups (CSGs) for younger AVID students; peer-reviewing senior essays.
  • End-of-year reflection on growth; setting specific SMART goals for the first 90 days of Senior year.
