• Introduction to graphic design, animation, video production, and web development

• Exploring roles like digital content creators, multimedia artists, and social media managers

• Skills and education needed for various roles

• Students create a short presentation or poster on a chosen digital media career

 

Unit 2: Digital Citizenship and Ethics

• Understanding digital citizenship and responsible online behavior

• Discussing privacy, security, and cyberbullying

• Ethical issues in digital media (copyright, plagiarism, digital manipulation)

• Students create a digital citizenship pledge or infographic

 

Unit 3: Introduction to Digital Media

• Definition and types of digital media (text, audio, video, images)

• Differences between digital and traditional media

• Importance of digital media in modern communication

• Digital media consumption and creation

• Basic digital media tools and software (e.g., Canva, iMovie, Adobe Spark)

Unit 4: Visual Storytelling and Graphic Design Basics

• Introduction to the four design principles: contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity

• Basics of color theory: primary, secondary colors, and the emotional impact of colors

• Introduction to typography: serif vs. sans serif, font hierarchy, and readability

• Importance of visual composition in telling a story

• Overview of graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Pixlr)

• Students create a poster or social media graphic using design principles learned

 

Unit 5: Animation and Motion Graphics

• Introduction to animation types: frame-by-frame, stop-motion, and CGI

• Key animation principles: squash and stretch, timing, and anticipation

• Frame-by-frame animation: students create short hand-drawn animations

• Stop motion: students create simple stop-motion films using everyday objects

• Introduction to beginner-friendly animation software (FlipaClip, Blender)

• Motion graphics basics: animating text and graphics

• Students create a short animated video or motion graphic

Unit 6: Audio/Video Production Basics

• Overview of video as a storytelling tool

• Introduction to basic camera shots (wide, close-up) and angles (high, low)

• Rule of thirds and framing composition

• Basics of lighting and sound in video production

• Introduction to storyboarding: planning shots and sequences

• Students learn basic video editing (iMovie, Adobe Premiere Rush)

• Project: students create a 1-2 minute video, focusing on shot composition and editing

 

Unit 7: Web Design and Digital Content Creation

• Introduction to basic web design principles (layout, navigation, usability)

• Introduction to content management systems (e.g., Wix, WordPress)

• Creating and organizing digital content for the web (text, images, videos)

• Students design a simple website or webpage using a drag-and-drop builder

Unit 8: Commercial Photography 

• Intro to photography as a visual medium for advertising and business purposes

• Camera settings (focus, exposure, and composition)

• Lighting techniques (natural vs. artificial) and how to arrange elements in a shot

• Photographing products and objects for advertising

• Portrait Photography

• Introduction to photo-editing software (e.g., Pixlr, Adobe Lightroom) to adjust brightness, contrast, and cropping
