Unit 1: The World of Agriculture - 2 weeks Objectives: • To define agriculture. • To discuss the history of agriculture. • To analyze issues and technologies within the agricultural industry. • To evaluate the effects agriculture has on society and the global market.
Unit 2: Animal Welfare vs Animal Rights - 2 weeks Objectives: • To be able to define both animal rights and animal welfare • To describe the differences between animal rights and animal welfare. • To identify groups or organizations that support animal rights and animal welfare
Unit 3: Skills for Real World Survival - 3 weeks Objectives: • To understand the importance of communication. • To understand the importance of writing, speaking and listening well. • To understand and apply the decision-making process. • To understand the importance of basic math concepts and reading comprehension. • To realize the importance of understanding technology. • To recognize achievements and mistakes. • To set realistic goals. • To understand ethics and recognize an ethical situation. • To learn to be effective leaders. • To know the importance of teamwork. • To realize the importance of getting involved. • To recognize safety and conflict in the workplace. • To practice awareness of cultural diversity. Unit 4: Employability Skills - 2 weeks Objectives: • To define employability. • To learn the parts of employability. • To learn employability skills. | Unit 5: Introduction to Record Keeping - 2 weeks Objectives: • To understand the fundamentals of record keeping. • To maintain production and agribusiness records. • To identify financial concepts associated with profit and loss. • To apply record keeping concepts to Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs) programs.
Unit 6: Public Speaking Basics & Written Communication practices - 3 weeks Objectives: • To identify the different components of a speech. • To analyze various factors to consider when creating a speech for a variety of audiences, situations and purposes. • To recognize the appropriate presentation technique when presenting in a formal or informal setting. • To apply the appropriate use of grammar, spelling and punctuation rules. • To examine methods to organize information. • To discover various avenues for research and preparation for communications.
Unit 7: Agriculture Communication: The Basics (Journalism & Broadcasting) - 4 weeks Objectives: • To explain the basics of communications. • To discuss journalistic writing. • To discuss the importance of communicating information. • To determine the importance and use of written communications in agriculture. • To discuss ethics and standards for broadcasting. • To learn about the forms of broadcast stories. • To demonstrate knowledge of broadcasting through script writing and production. • To display knowledge of basic broadcasting techniques and delivery skills.
Fall CCA | Unit 8: Intro to Professional Communications and Listening 101 - 3 weeks Objectives: • To identify purposes and types of professional communication. • To examine specific components of the listening process in communication. • To effectively communicate in interviews and presentations. • To effectively apply appropriate etiquette and social responsibilities in communication. • To identify and explain two important types of listening. • To understand poor listening habits and reasons for not listening. • To explore and understand different listening skills. Unit 11: Financial Responsibilities - 3 weeks Objectives: • To identify the importance of financial responsibility. • To be able to maintain personal financial records. • To evaluate methods of maintaining and monitoring financial wellness.
