Each Week:

Continue Alphanumeric Typing Skills.  Students should work to improve their speed and accuracy each grading period.  

Weeks 1-9

 

Week 1:  Digital Citizenship

Create a teacher account at EverFi.net and create a course for EverFi Ignition.  See the EverFi Ignition curriculum guide on the EverFi.net website.

 

Week 2:  Intro to Keyboarding

Teacher can setup a free account on Typing.com to monitor student progress through keyboarding lessons.  Make sure to teach proper keyboarding technique, finger placement, and ergonomics.  Teacher can use keyboarding practice as a warmup if they choose, but typing lessons should continue throughout the course.

SUGGESTION:  Track student progress in typing lessons and setup a class period competition to motivate students.

 

Week 3-4:  Intro to Operating Systems

Students will learn basic system skills that will be used throughout the year.  These skills should include, but are not limited to:

• File Management

• Keyboard Shortcuts

• Managing Windows

• Data Storage

Week 5:  Intro to Microsoft Office

Students will learn about the workspace and user interface that is used throughout the Office suite (all applications).  The pieces that students should know include, but are not limited to:

• Ribbon

• Tabs

• Groups

• Commands

• Managing Windows

• Keyboard Shortcuts

 

Learning the basics in this first 5-week period will help students be more comfortable and efficient when working through the Microsoft Office suite this year.

Weeks 6-9

Microsoft PowerPoint

This unit will focus on Microsoft PowerPoint.  Teacher should review the Workspace and User Interface in PowerPoint.  Students will learn how to create, edit, and format business presentations.

• Importing slides from outline

• Headers & Footers

• Edit Master slides

• Formatting & Aligning Text

At the end of the unit, students will prepare for MOS PowerPoint certification exam through certification prep software and practice tests.

Microsoft Word

This unit will focus on Microsoft Word.  Teacher should review the Workspace and User Interface in Word.  Students will learn how to create, edit, and format professional text documents such as letters, memos, newsletters, cover letters, reports, etc.

At the end of the unit, students will prepare for MOS Word certification exam through certification prep software and practice tests.

 

Weeks 14-18

Microsoft Publisher

This unit will focus on Microsoft Publisher.  Teacher should review the Workspace and User Interface in Publisher.  Students will learn how to create, edit, and format professional publications, such as newsletters, business cards, brochures, menus, etc.

• Creating and saving new publications

• Inserting pages

• Working with text

• Creating lists

• Inserting and deleting objects, pictures, and tables

• Creating master pages

• Using building blocks

• Performing a mail merge

• Printing a publication

Each Week:

Each Week:

This unit students will begin numeric typing lessons with a focus on 10-keying and the numeric keypad.  Students should work to improve their speed and accuracy each grading period. 

 

Week 20-27:  Microsoft Excel

This unit will focus on Microsoft Excel.  Teacher should review the Workspace and User Interface in Excel.  Students will learn how to create, edit, and format professional spreadsheets.

• Creating and saving spreadsheets
