Modules 1:

Orientation to the trades

Review the history of the construction Trade,program opportunities, Skills, Responsibilities etc. (NCCER module Exam).

Module2: BuildingMaterials,Fasteners, and Adhesives.

Introduction to different forms and applications of building materials used in Residential and Commercial construction industry. (NCCER module Exam)

Hand Power Tool Safety.

Module 3:

Hand and Power Tools; Provide in depth description of the different forms of tools used by carpenters.

Topics include, types of nail gun, saw/blades, portable and stationary machines, clamps, levels etc.

Safety is stressed every step of the way. (NCCER module Exam)

 

Module 4: Introduction to Construction Drawings, Specifications,and Layout. Cover techniques for interpreting and using construction drawings and specifications. Identify the components of a residential drawing set. Scaling and redline plans, Material take-off, Window,door,foundation and finishing schedules. Material selection and pricing.

Module 5: Floor Systems

Covers framing and procedures for laying out and constructing a wood floor system, using common lumber, as well as engineered building materials. Types applications of framing methods. Type and applications of wood products.Interpreting floor system plans, conduct floor system material take-off, selection and pricing. Types of floor systems and applications. Sizing beams and columns etc. (NCCER module Exam)

 

Module 6: Wall Systems

Describe procedures for laying out wall systems, including windows, doors, partitions and corners. Types of corners, headers, partitions, material selections, estimating/take-off, and pricing. Structural integrity , load bearing and non load bearing and fire stops. (NCCER module Exam)

Module 7: Ceiling Joist and Roof Framing. Describe type of residential roofs and instruction on laying out rafters for gable, shed, and hip roofs systems. Cover stick framing and truss framing. Basic roof sheathing and  covering installations. (NCCER module Exam)

Module 8: Introduction to Building Envelope Systems. Introduced to the concept of the building envelope and explains its components. Types of windows,skylights, exterior doors and installation procedures. Window and door flashing.

Module 9: Basic Stair Layout

Introduces types of stairs and common building code requirements related to stairs. Focuses on techniques for measuring and calculating rise, run,and stairwell opening, laying out stringers and fabrication.

Spring CCA

Required Project: No projects.

Required Project:

 Given a set of construction drawings students will conduct the plan, Determine square footage of each partition and total square footage of the project. Determine door and window sizes.

Required Project: 

Module 5: Construct a basic floor system, including floor access, braces and rim joist system.

 

Module 6: Layout, construct, and assemble wall systems, include, door,windows, partitions, solid or California corners.

Required Project: Module 7:

layout and install Rafters and ceiling systems. Construct a gable or shed roof system.

 

Module 8: Prepare window and door opening for installations.Install windows and exterior doors. Install house wrap.

Install locksets

 

Module 9: Construct a basic stairs system. Calculate the total rise, number and size of threads required for a stairs.Layout and cut stringers

Additional Activities: 

Module 1:

• Complete a Job Hazard Analysis Form.

• Group Powerpoint presentation on all four sections of the module. Lab and General tool safety individual demonstration and Testing.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 2:

• Group presentation on type of engineered materials and their applications

• Calculate the quantities of lumber, panels, and concrete products used in the construction industry and standard methods.

• Demonstrate safe and proper installation of drop-in anchors.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities: 

Module 3:

• Hand and Power tool safety.

• Hand and Power tool demonstration/performance task.

• Proper tool selection for a given task. Basic floor system and  wall system layout activities.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 4:

• Create Header schedule

• Design window schedule

• Design door schedule

• Conduct a material estimate.

• Conduct material selection

• Material pricing

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities:

Module 5: 

• Material estimate

• Material selections

• Size floor joist

• Determine joist spans, using span charts.

• Assemble and square floor system.

• Deck floor system.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

Module 6:

• Structure loading of walls.

• Load Bearing and non-load bearing walls.

• Material estimate

• Material selections

• Determine studs heights.

• Lay out 16’’ and 24’’ O.C.

• Layout doors,windows, partitions assembly and corners

• Determine door and window headers, using span charts

• Assemble wall systems

• Square wall systems

• Erect exterior and interior walls, and plumb wall systems

• Blace wall systems and install double top plates and partition plates.

Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities: 

Module 7: Roof material estimate, selections and pricing.Frame tiny home roof systems. Install roof deck and protective membrane. Prep standing seam roof panels Install standing seam metal roofing.Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

Module 8: Prep window and door cavities. Flash window and door openings.Install windows and doors. Trim windows and doors.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 9:

•  Perform stairs calculations.

• Estimate stairs materials, sizing and pricing.

• Layout stairs.

• Construct and install a stairs system.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

Successful completion of all nine modules will ensure level one certification.
