Module 1: 

General material and tool safety.

Wood and Masonry Construction Methods. Provides an overview of the materials and techniques used in constructing and finishing residential and commercial buildings, including wood frame, bricks and blocks, and post and beam. Covers common drill, bits, and techniques used to drill through wood and masonry. Also review fasteners used with these materials.

Module 2:

Thermal and Moisture Protection

Covers the selection and installation of various types of insulating materials in walls, floors and attics. Also covers the uses and installation practices for vapor barriers and moisture proofing materials.

Module 3:Sealing the Building Envelope.

Covers the caulks, sealants, and insulation products used to seal cracks and reduce thermal loss.

Describe the types of materials, their selection,and the methods for applying them, including blowing insulation into cavities of finished walls and using expanding foams.

Module 3 : Continuation, types of insulation foam such as closed cell and opened cells. Insulation R-values north and south zones.

Module 5: Insulating Pipes, Ducts, and Water Heaters.

Discusses the benefits of insulating pipes, ducts, and water heaters, as well as the materials used for the purpose and how to apply them. Provide basic knowledge of pipes of residential HVAC ducts and duct systems. Exterior insulation finish systems (EIFS)

Module 1: Commercial Drawing

Describes how to read and interpret a set of commercial drawings and specifications.

Module 7&8: Drywall installation and Finishing.

Describe materials, tools, and methods used to finish drywall.

Describe various types of gypsum drywall products and their applications.

Spring CCA

Required Project: 

• Construct a pier and beam foundation.

Required Project:

•  Install vapor and moisture barriers on tiny homes.

• Caulk and seal windows and doors. 

• Install window and door flashing. 

• Insulate tiny home floor, wall and ceilings

Required Project:

• Powerpoint presentation on type of insulation product available in the construction industry for insulating pipes, duct and water heaters.

 

• Install finishing systems in tiny homes.

Required Project:

Commercial Drawing. 

• Create window and door schedules.

• Exterior finishing installation on tiny homes.

• Drywall installation and finishing on tiny home/ lab modules.

• Install finishing systems in tiny homes.

Additional Activities:

• Material estimate

• Lay out and construct a pier and beam foundation.

•  Anchor sill to pier using designated bolts and anchors. 

• Install waterproofing membrane and termite shields.
