- Students demonstrate professional standards/employability skills as required by business and industry.

Unit 3: Concrete (2 weeks)

-Concrete ingredients

-Concrete types

-PSI and cylinder tests

-Slump

-Additives (accelerators, retarders)

Unit 5: Roofing (4 weeks)

Roof Framing:(2 weeks)

-Demonstrate an understanding of the terms associated with roof framing

-mansard, gambrel, gable, hip, single slope (shed roof) 

-Identify the methods used to calculate the length of a rafter

-Identify the various types of trusses     used in roof framing

-Use a framing square, speed square and calculator in laying out a roof. 

 

Roofing Process and Materials: (2 weeks)

Identify different types of roof coverings:

-Types of asphalt/composite shingles (3 tab, dimensional)

-Metal, wood, composition, and natural slate roofs

 

Identify materials in roofing: 

-Starter Shingles

-Drip Edge

-Ridge Cap

-Felt (15#, 30#, synthetic    underlayment)

-Roofing Nails

-Different types of Roof ventilation

-Rain diverters 

-Roofing cement

 

Roof Measuring:

-To measure a roof in squares, calculate the total are in square feet (for each section) and divide by 100

 

Unit 6: Electrical Wiring (5 weeks)

 

-Students gain knowledge about residential wiring and  codes used in  the construction industry.

 

-Students know the basic concepts of  currents.  Electrical safety and tools used for common wiring.

 

-romex wire, lamp kits, insulated and industrial electrician tools, wood planks

Unit 7: Drywall (4 weeks)

The student knows various types of gypsum drywall and their uses and the fastening devices and methods used to install them

-Taping and finishing

Stairs (2 weeks)

-Identify stair types

-Continue adding to the subfloor and wall model project by adding rafters, roof deck, shingles. 

 

-Electrify the wall with different options. Example:

-pigtail to receptacle

-receptacle to toggle switch

-toggle switch to light fixture

-light fixture to 3 way toggle switch

-Install drywall on the wall

-Drywall finishing and repair
