Unit: 1 Safety (1 Week) -Students understand that safe working habits are imperative in the classroom and in the field. -Student demonstrates professional standards/employability skills as required by business and industry.
-PPE, OSHA, SDS, HazCom, Identify / avoid hazards / risks Unit: 2 Drafting and Design (5 Weeks) - commercial and residential construction drawings
-basic keys, abbreviations, and other references contained in a set of commercial drawings -Safety Exams Unit3: Steel Framing (3 Weeks) - components of a steel framing system -tools and fasteners used in a steel framing system -build back-to-back, box, and L-headers - layout and install a steel stud structural and Non-Structural wall with openings to include bracing and blocking | Continue Steel Framing Unit 4: Roofing (3 Weeks) -materials and methods used in roofing -safety requirements for roof jobs -Roof using fiber glass shingles - lay out, cut, and install a cricket or saddle -Relevant Safety Exams *Ladder Safety *Fall Hazards
Unit 5: Insulation, Vapor Barriers, and Waterproofing (3 Weeks)
-Characteristics & requirements for insulation -Installation and Calculating Insulation, vapor barriers, water proofing, and building wraps Unit 6: Gypsum Drywall Installation (3 Weeks) -different types of drywall and their uses -fasteners for drywall -single-layer and multi-layer drywall installations - install gypsum drywall on steel studs -Material Estimation -Relevant Safety Exams
Fall CCA | Unit 7: Gypsum Drywall Finishing (3 Weeks) -Six Levels of Drywall Finish -hand tools & automatic tools used in drywall finishing -compounds, joint reinforcing tapes, trim materials, textures, and coatings -patch damaged drywall
Unit 8: Exterior Siding (3 Weeks) -wall insulation, flashing, cornices, lap and panel siding installation and estimation. - Learn about common wood siding, fiber-cement siding, vinyl and metal siding, and stucco and masonry veneer finishes - install three types of siding commonly used in the local area -Metal Doors -various types of door jambs and frames -Hang a door Unit 9: Suspended Ceilings (3 Weeks) -Level Lines -acoustical ceiling materials -sketch the ceiling layout for a basic suspended ceiling and install selected suspended ceilings | Unit 10: Trim and Finish Work (3 Weeks) -different types of standard moldings -square and miter cuts -coped joint cuts using a coping saw - fasteners to install trim -estimate the quantities of different trim materials
Unit 11: Cabinets and Countertops (3 Weeks) -classes and sizes of typical base and wall kitchen cabinets -cabinet components and hardware -build a cabinet from a set of drawings -install plastic laminate on a countertop core Unit 12: Employment (2 Weeks) -Reaching out to employers -Jobsite Visits - Resume and Portfolio finalization
