Unit 1

*Understand the responsibilities of parents serving a child’s emotional and physical needs 

 

*Research various parenting styles  and the effect on children's behavior and personalities

*Investigate the legal rights of parents including legal and physical custody- including PAPA curriculum

 

Unit 2

*Identify the signs and stages of pregnancy throughout each trimester. 

*Analyze the effect of environmental and hereditary factors on conception and fetal development, including prenatal brain development

*Analyze nutritional needs during pregnancy

*Analyze appropriate medical care and good health practices prior to and during pregnancy

*Analyze the process of labor and delivery

Unit 3:

*Analyze the effects of childhood trauma at each developmental stage

 

*Describe the counseling and therapeutic services available to children

 

*Demonstrate first aid andCPR skills

*Discuss the immunization schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics 

*Assess the safety of children's cribs, toys, clothing, and food; and care (SIDS, SBS, and other home safety)

*Analyze Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social, and moral development needs of the infant

*Identify physical milestones, nutritional needs, benefits of breastfeeding, and strategies that promote the wellbeing of an infant- 1 year.

*Analyze infant brain development and determine strategies that promote the health and safety of an infant

Unit 5:

*Analyze Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social, and moral development needs of the toddler

 

*Identify physical milestones, nutritional needs, and strategies that promote the wellbeing of a toddler

 

*Create play activities that enhance a toddler’s growth and development

 

*Prepare snacks or meals that meet appropriate nutritional guidelines for toddlers

 

Unit 6:

*Analyze Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social, and moral development needs of the preschooler

 

*Role of play in preschool child’s growth and development

*Physical activities or group play that meet the needs of  preschool children

*Prepare nutritional snacks or meals for preschool children

*Compare the roles of various school environments such as public, private, and home settings in the growth and development of school age children

 

*Develop appropriate activities for meeting development needs of school age children

*Create a balanced meal plans for children ages 6 through 11 years
