-Shop safety in the engineering shop/lab

-Document hazards found around the lab

-Tool familiarization

-Proper tool selection for the need

-Discussion of how to properly operate and maintain tools

-Discussion SDS and its importance

-Proper disposal of hazardous materials

 

Wk 6: 

-Choose and operate the proper measuring instrument and ensure there is consistency as far as the units required to be used in order to ensure accuracy and precision while taking measurements (Metrology)

-Research, recognize and understand the importance and differences of industrial standards like International Standards Organization (ISO) and Military Specifications

 

Wk 7, Wk 8:

-Introduction to Engineering Design Process

-Understand and effectively implement Pareto Charts in the analysis of Quality Control Systems. 

-Implement Gantt Charts to be used as a tool in Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Wk 1, Wk 2, Wk 3, Wk 4: 

- Solidworks course/certification information session

-Revisit/introduce 3D CAD software interface

-Introduction to Additive manufacturing (3D printing) using CAD

-Create technical drawings for a design using 3D CAD software

 

Wk 5, Wk 6, Wk 7:

-Work on a design team/ engineering team to develop a product.

 -Collaborate in a team environment to successfully develop a product.

 

Wk 8: CCA

Wk 1: 

-Introduction to Subtractive manufacturing (CNC machines, Mills and Lathes)

 

Wk 2, Wk 3:

-design a product using CAM software for production on a CNC MILL

-produce a product on the CNC mill or a simulation

 

Wk 4: 

-complete data sheets for plan, do, check, and act forms and projects

 

Wk 5, Wk 6:

-Introduce circuits and logical operations in manufacturing processes

-Ohm’s Law for Series Circuits

-Ohm’s Law for Parallel Circuits

 

Wk 7: 

-The Power Equation

-Voltage Dividers

 

Wk 8: 

-Magnetism and DC Motors

-Reading Resistors

-PCB Boards and Soldering Lab

 

Wk 9, Wk 10: 

-Intro to Programmable Logic Controllers

-Working with manufacturing logic systems

Wk 1: 

-Introduction to Heat Transfer (Conduction, Convection, Radiation)

 

Wk 2:

-Introduce the four laws of thermodynamics and their purpose

-Ideal Gas Law

-Using the 1st Law of Thermo, calculate changes in internal energy of a system. (Have the students do the math work)

- Basic Pneumatic and Hydraulic Principles

-Basic calculations related to both Pneumatic and hydraulic (Fluidic) Systems

-Mechanical Advantage using Fluid Systems

UNIT 6 - Design & build a Box Fan with Solidworks CAD designs

Capstone Project - Hydraulic Robot Arm with Solidworks CAD designs to include simulation
