Unit 1: Engineering and Manufacturing Employability Skills   (5 Weeks)

- Introduction to Manufacturing Engineering

-complete data sheets for plan, do, check, and act forms and projects

 

Unit 2: Safety (1 Week)

-Shop safety in the engineering shop/lab

-Document hazards found around the lab

-Tool familiarization

-Proper tool selection for the need

-Discussion of how to properly operate and maintain tools

-Choose and operate the proper measuring instrument and ensure there is consistency as far as the units required to be used in order to ensure accuracy and precision while taking measurements (Metrology)

-Discussion SDS and its importance

-Proper disposal of hazardous materials

 

Unit 3: Quality Control Systems (3 Weeks)

โ€ข Research, recognize and understand the importance and differences of industrial standards like International Standards Organization (ISO) and Military Specifications

 

โ€ข Understand and effectively implement Pareto Charts in the analysis of Quality Control Systems. 

 

โ€ข Interpret Statistical Process Control to be used as a tool in Quality control and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Unit 4: CAD and Design Process (6 Weeks)

-Introduction to Engineering Design Process

-Revisit/introduce 3D CAD software interface

-Introduction to Additive manufacturing (3D printing) using CAD - SolidWorks course/certification

-Work on a design team/ engineering team to develop a product. 

-Create technical drawings for a design using 3D CAD software

 -Collaborate in a team environment to successfully develop a product.

 

Unit 5: CAM and CNC (3 Weeks)

-Design a product using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software for production on a CNC LATHE

 

-produce a product on the CNC lathe or a simulation

-design a product using CAM software for production on a CNC MILL

-produce a product on the CNC mill or a simulation

Unit 6: Electricity and Electronic Devices (4 Weeks)

- Current

- Voltage

- Resistance

- Ohmโ€™s Law

- Power 

- Magnetism 

- Series & Parallel Circuits

- Voltage dividers 

- PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers)

 

Optional Labs: 

- DC motors 

- Audio Speakers 

- Soldering 

 

Unit 7: Thermal Science (3 Weeks)

-Explain that heat is the flow of energy from hot materials to cold materials.

 

-Describe that molecules in a material begin to vibrate (or move) more quickly when the material is heated.

 

-Identify conduction as heat transfer within and between solids.

 

- Identify convection as heat transfer involving gasses or liquids.

 

-Identify radiation as heat transfer carried by little packets of energy that can travel through almost any materialโ€”even empty space.

 

-List examples of each type of heat transfer.

 

 Pneumatics and Hydraulics (2 weeks)

- Basic Pneumatic and Hydraulic Principles

 

-Basic calculations related to both Pneumatic and hydraulic (Fluidic) Systems

 

-Mechanical Advantage

Unit 8: Capstone Project (8 Wks)

- Hydraulic Robot Arm Capstone Project

 

-CAD Drawings and simulation applications using Solidworks as discussed in unit four.

 

-Manufacture individual parts following CAD drawings and Specifications as discussed in units four and five.

 

-Prepare Pareto Charts utilizing Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Metrology concepts studied in class on units two and three.

-Hydraulics concepts will be implemented into the design in order to operate the arm as discussed in unit seven.

 

Design a control unit to house the input syringes.

 - 3D print a product or object using a 3D Printer - - 3D Print your Schoolโ€™s Mascot Project

 

UNIT 5 โ€“ Simulate or produce a product/object using the CNC Mill with SolidWorks

Required Project: UNIT 6 - Design & build a Box Fan

 

UNIT 7 โ€“ Hydraulic Controlled Rotating Disk

Capstone Project - Robot Arm
