• Defining the basic economic problem; identifying the steps in making effective business decisions.

• Distinguish between the various types of economic systems and answer the three economic questions.

• Describe supply and demand and how they affect the prices of goods and services.

Economic Activity

 

Prerequisite skill(s):  basic understanding of being a consumer

 

Learning Objectives:

• Define and describe gross domestic product, economic measures of labor, and consumer spending.

• Describe and explain the phases of the business cycle, the causes of inflation and deflation, and interest rates.

• Identify and discuss concerns of economic growth such as investments and borrowing by government, businesses, and consumers.

 

Chapter 3

Business in the Global Economy

 

Prerequisite skill(s):  basic understanding of international trade

 

Learning Objectives:

• Define and describe importing, exporting, balance of trade, and balance of payments.

• Explain factors that affect the value of global currencies.

• Discuss issues of international business such as trade barriers and how to promote international trade.

• Discuss activities and multinational and international trade organizations.

Chapter 4

Social Responsibility of Business and Government

 

Prerequisite skill(s):  basic understanding of ethics and morals

 

Learning Objectives:

• Describe and explain social responsibility issues for businesses, such as benefits and costs, and the purpose of a code of ethics.

• Identify and explain the roles of government in business.

• Describe the types of intellectual property.

• Explain the actions and efforts of the government to regulate and assist business and to raise money.

• Describe the changing status and role of business in the U. S. economy.

• Define and describe the three major types of businesses.
