Unit: 3 Family Violence (2 Weeks) -procedures and protocols for domestic violence -techniques to enforce domestic violence laws -diffusion of a domestic violence incident -application of laws during an arrest -active listening, effective speaking skills, and interpersonal skills Unit: 4 Conflict-Management, Crisis Situations, and Crowd Control
(2 Weeks) -interpersonal communication techniques to resolve conflicts and reduce anger -techniques used to manage crisis situations and maintain public safety -crisis negotiation to promote the safety of individuals and the general public -hostage safety considerations

(2 Weeks) -different uses of various telecommunication equipment
-the usage of telecommunication mobile, handheld radio systems, and current technology
-radio communication using phonetic alphabet and common terminology
-radio and data communications using mobile data computer and handheld radios
-safety concerns with the use of telecommunications equipment in the presence of non-first responders and while operating vehicles
-call for service prioritization and procedures used during emergency communications incidents
Unit: 7 Safety, First Aid, and Critical Thinking Skills (CPR / AED)
(3 Weeks) -problem-solving and safety skills in LPSSC careers -dangers associated with the different career fields -safe handling of hazardous materials -importance of good health and physical fitness -first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator procedures -ethical issues and safety and health strategies in a workplace environment Unit: 8 Disasters and Response Systems

-law enforcement functions regarding critical infrastructure protection from potential terrorist and natural disaster threats
-plan development for protecting potential targets
Unit: 9 Reports and Crime Scenes (3 Weeks) -field note-taking and report-writing skills - legal requirements for first responders to enter, remain, release, and return to a crime scene - procedures to enter and secure a crime scene -proper search of a crime scene for evidence -the use of strip-line search, grid-quadrant search, zone-wheel search, spiral search, and base-line search -procedures for marking and collecting evidence found in a crime scene -procedures for photographing the crime scene and evidence during the process of investigating a crime scene -wide angle, mid-range, spatial relationship, and close-up photographs -chain of custody and proper packaging of various types of evidence for transportation Unit:10 Transportation, Interviews, and Interrogations
(2 Weeks) -procedures designed to safely transport a person in custody -search of an individual incidental to an arrest -procedures for transporting a person without violating personal rights or jeopardizing personal safety -methods of restraining a person being transported -transporting non-custodial persons and juveniles -interviews and interrogations of individuals ensuring protection of rights as outlined in the U.S. Constitution Unit: 11 Custody and Interrogation
(1 Week) -civil law enforcement procedures for serving writs, warrants, and summons -civil law procedures such as attachment, garnishment, claim, and delivery | cont. Unit: 11 Custody and Interrogation
(1 Week) -limits on the use of force and entry to private property during civil process service -domestic violence protective orders, no-contact orders, and orders to pick up children -requirements for emergency mental health evaluation Unit: 12 Patrol Procedures and Responses (2 Weeks) -procedures and response to calls for service encountered by first responders
-legal justification and application of probable cause for first responders' actions during a suspected offense or an actual offense
-pursuit procedures such as incidents involving vehicles, motorcycles, and foot pursuits
-patrol responses when responding to offenses on-view, dispatched calls, and public information requests
-misdemeanor and a high-risk traffic stop
-responding to a delayed crime and a crime in progress, conducting a building search, conducting an arrest with a warrant or a warrantless arrest
-importance of being safety conscious when in the role of being a first responder
-response procedures with one-person units, two-person units, multiple units, other agency units, and specialized units such as air, K-9, and undercover operations
Unit: 13 Accident Investigations
(3 Weeks) -laws, methods, and techniques related to motor vehicle accident investigations -mathematical calculations using speed, velocity, time, and distance -scale diagrams of simulated collisions using templates -investigating and documenting a motor vehicle accident -recording crash scene evidence using standard report procedures -crash scene evidence using standard laws, regulations, and procedures Unit: 14 Alcohol and Beverage Laws
(1 Week) -local and state law enforcement procedures pertaining to alcohol and beverage laws
-definition of alcoholic beverages and the difference of legal and illegal alcohol sales
-laws and procedures to enforce violations of driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence
-indicators of impaired driving and methods used to detect and apprehend drivers under the influence
-executing and interpreting tests related to driving under the influence, such as the National Traffic Highway Safety Administration Standardized Field Sobriety Test and the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, Walk-and-Turn, and One-Leg Stand tests
-preparing evidence and reports required to give court testimony related to simulated incidents of driving under the influence
Unit: 15 Legal Proceedings
(1 Week) -testimony in legal proceedings in accordance with courtroom procedures -roles of the courtroom work group -effective courtroom testimony -pre-trial meeting with a prosecutor -reviewing field notes, reports, and evidence prior to pre-trial meeting -professionalism in demeanor and attire as a witness Unit: 16 Employment Portfolio and Resume (1 Week) -preparation of resume for various law enforcement careers
