• emergency communications (hostage situations, pursuits, critical incidents)
• safety concerns when using radios, MDTs, and communication equipment
Unit: 10 Use of Force & Deadly Force (3 Weeks)
• force continuum and levels of resistance
• legal authority for use of force
• guidelines and restrictions for less-than-lethal force
• state and federal limitations on deadly force
• evaluating use-of-force scenarios using judgment and officer safety principles • passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, and assertive behavior

• communication skills to reduce conflict and maintain public safety
• factors that contribute to hostility and escalation Unit 3- Courtroom Testimony & Legal Proceedings ( 3 Weeks) • Roles of the courtroom work group (judge, prosecutor, defense attorney, jury, witnesses, law enforcement) • Importance of reviewing field notes, reports, and evidence prior to trial and pre-trial meetings • Proper procedures for introducing evidence for admission into court • Characteristics of effective courtroom testimony • Professional demeanor, appearance, and conduct while testifying as a witness • Purpose and importance of pre-trial meetings with prosecutors | Unit: 4 Crisis Management & Negotiation (3 Weeks) • crisis intervention techniques used in law enforcement • effective communication during crisis situations • crisis negotiation strategies to promote public and individual safety • balancing individual rights and public safety during crisis incidents • hostage safety considerations and de-escalation techniques Unit: 5 Victim Interaction & Special Populations (3 Weeks) • procedures for advising victims of legal rights and available resources • step-by-step court procedures for suspects, victims, and witnesses • assisting individuals with disabilities (autism, Alzheimer’s, hearing, visual, mobility impairments) • preliminary investigation procedures for specialized crimes (hate crimes, bullying, sexual harassment, terroristic threats) • death notification procedures and legal responsibilities to victims Unit: 6 Domestic Violence & Protective Orders (3 Weeks) • techniques for enforcing domestic violence laws • identifying dynamics and indicators of domestic violence • procedures for responding to and diffusing domestic violence incidents • legal authority and arrest procedures in domestic violence cases • types of protective orders and law enforcement responsibilities Fall CCA | Unit 12: Use of Force (2 Weeks) • Use of the force continuum in simulated law enforcement scenarios • Legal authority for the use of force by law enforcement officers • State and federal guidelines and restrictions related to the use of deadly force • Evaluation of less-than-lethal force options and appropriate application • Evaluation of deadly force situations and justification requirements Unit 13: Custody, Transport & Interviews (3 Weeks)
