Unit 2: Academic Knowledge and Communication Skills (3 weeks)
-evaluate effective use of grammar to develop verbal communication skills; -Avoiding Jargon; using proper communication as a professional -demonstrate effective interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with coworkers and the public.
Unit 3: Safety, First Aid, and Critical-Thinking Skills (3 weeks)
-safe and healthful working conditions in a law and public safety environment -identify, analyze, and evaluate the dangers associated with the different career fields; -discuss methods for safe handling of hazardous materials; | Unit 3: Safety, First Aid, and Critical-Thinking Skills (3 weeks)
- Identify safety, help with first aid situations -Check, Call, Care -Differentiate between the three types of bleeding. -Recognize the steps in wound care. -Examine the injuries resulting from extreme heat and cold -Recognize and treat for Anaphalaxis, shock, heart attack, insect sting, overdose -Demonstrate first aid and CPR procedures.
Unit 4: Legal Roles and Responsibilities (3 Weeks) -Examine real-world situations involving ethical dilemmas and professional conduct; -Explain laws, regulations, and policies that govern professionals; and -Recommend a strategy for responding to an unethical or illegal situation.
Unit 5: Working Cooperatively within LPSSC Agencies (3 weeks) discuss the importance of police, fire, emergency medical services, court, corrections, and security systems working together to protect the public; -examine the roles and responsibilities of first responders; -identify jurisdictional problems that may arise as multiple agencies work together; and -differentiate the roles of private security and public law enforcement agencies.
Fall CCA- over Units 1- 5 | Unit 6: Essentials of Criminal Law (4 weeks) -identify the sources and origin of law in the United States; -explain the impact of the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights on criminal law in regard to the rights of citizens; -differentiate between crimes classified as felonies or misdemeanors and the punishments -analyze the essential elements and classifications of a crime; -identify problems commonly associated with the enforcement of criminal laws; and -identify the process by which laws are enacted.
Unit 8: The Court System Professional (2 weeks) -examine the roles of the courtroom work group careers such as judges, prosecutors, defense counsel, and bailiffs; -explain pretrial and courtroom procedures; -identify types of sentencing and sentencing rules
Unit 7: The Public Safety Professional (3 weeks) -identify career opportunities in federal, state, county, and municipal law enforcement agencies; - identify the education and training required for various levels of law enforcement; - discuss the history of policing in the United States; - identify the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement professionals; - analyze the impact of constitutional law on police as it relates to arrest, use of force, searches, and seizure; - identify how public safety professionals manage the stress related to these jobs. | Unit 9: The Correction System Professional (3 weeks) -explain career opportunities available in the correctional system, including probation and parole; -explain the duties and responsibilities of correctional officers; - recognize the history of prisons in the United States; - explain the differences between jails and prisons; - identify the levels of security in prisons and jails; and - explain the constitutional rights of inmates in prisons and jails.
Unit 10: The Private SecurityProfessional (3 weeks) -explain the career opportunities available in private security; -discuss the history and importance of private security in the United States; and -examine the relationship between private security and public safety agencies.
Unit 11: The Fire Protection Professional (3 weeks) -identify the career opportunities in fire protection services; -explain the duties and responsibilities of firefighters; -recognize the importance of the operation of 911 and computer-aided dispatch systems; and -explain the relationships among police, fire, and emergency medical services.

Investigate a Career in the Law, Fire, Corrections, or Security Cluster Using Choices 360 Students to research careers in corrections/Private security within their geographical area, including information about hiring guidelines, job duties, and salaries. The students should report their findings to the class through posters, Gallery walk, or Google Slide Show. | Required Project:

Respond to an Unethical Situation In connection to “Decoding a Code of Conduct - Activity” Students will write a script (Skit) to illustrate the scenario and clearly show what the proper and improper ways to handle the situation would be. After skit, the class will create other possible solutions. |
