Module 6: Plastic Pipe and Fittings

Introduces the various types of materials, schedules, and applications of plastic piping. Students will learn how to determine the appropriate types of fittings, valves, hangers, and supports needed for plastic piping. Also, students will learn and demonstrate how to properly measure, cut, and join plastic piping.  (NCCER module Exam).

Module 7: Copper Tube and Fittings

This module discusses the materials, schedules, and properties of copper tube, fittings, and valves. Students will learn how to measure, ream, cut, and join copper tube, as well as how to hang and support copper tube.  (NCCER module Exam).

Module 8: Cast- Iron Pipe and Fittings

This module discusses proper and improper application of cast-iron piping, as well as how to properly measure, cut, join, and support cast-iron.  (NCCER module Exam)

 

 

Fall CCA

Module 9: Steel Pipe and Fittings 

Discusses the type of steel pipe and fittings used in plumbing applications. Students will learn about common fittings and valves; measuring, cutting, and joining steel pipe; and the hangers and supports used with steel pipe. (NCCER module Exam)

Module 10: Introduction to Plumbing Fixtures 

This module discusses the materials commonly used to make fixtures, the most types of fixtures, and the types of faucets available. Students will learn how each type of fixture and faucet operates, as well as how to choose the proper fixture and faucets for a variety of installations(NCCER module Exam)

Module 11: Introduction to Drain,  Waste, and Vent (DWV) Systems

The module explains the factors that influence DWV system design and how different types of drains, fittings, vents and pipes are used to move waste out of a building. Students will learn installation requirements that prevent malfunctions in the DWV system.   (NCCER module Exam)

Module 12: Introduction to Water Distribution Systems 

This final module of the NCCER Plumbing level 1 textbook discusses the processes in which water is distributed. Students will learn to identify the components and functions of a water distribution system, as well as explain the relationships among the various components.(NCCER module Exam)

Module 6:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections.

•  Demonstrate proper use and application of PVC primer and glue.

• Select correct types of materials needed for two fixture rough-in

• Properly select and install the correct support and hanger.

• Develop material lists required for designated floor plans.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities: 

Module 7:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Develop isometric drawing for a minimum two fixture water distribution system.

• Develop material list selecting the appropriate fitting and valve needed for the set project.

• Correctly measure, cut, ream, clean, and join copper tube to copper fitting.

• Demonstrate safe and proper use of heating equipment.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 8:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Properly select and install the correct support and hanger.

• Properly select the correct materials and tools used to measure, mark, and snap cast iron

• Demonstrate the techniques used to snap, hang, and support cast-iron.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities:

Module 9:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Develop isometric drawing for a minimum three fixture water distribution system

• Develop material list selecting the appropriate fitting and valve needed for the set project.

• Determine the link of pipe needed for the set project using center to center, face to face, and end to end measurements

• Demonstrate how to cut, ream, and thread galvanized pipe using a hand die and stock.

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 10:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Identify the most common fixtures and appliances used in today’s industry.

• Correctly install a water closet flange, wax ring, and secure fixture to work station.

• Install wall hung lavatory while abiding to  ADA requirements. 

• Install kitchen sick, faucet, food-waste disposer, and continuous waste system

Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).

Additional Activities: 

Module 11:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Sketch an isometric drawing of a three fixture DWV system and label the various components.

• Illustrate how traps prevent gasses from leaking into a building without affecting the flow of sewage or wastewater. 

• Describe the various types of drainage fittings and their uses within the DWV piping system. 

• Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online). 

 

Module 12:

• Group presentation on the NCCER module sub sections

• Design and sketch a three fixture water distribution system.

• Compare private and municipal water supply systems

• Explore the relationship between well depth and the number of gallons per minute that may be pumped.

• Install water softening system and bypass.

• Install pressure reducing valve. 

• Review the five most common mechanical backflow preventers.

Finally students will take the (NCCER module Exam online).
