Unit: (1) History and Current Trends in Video Game Design - Research history and evolution of game design
- Compare & Contrast current and past technologies
- Examine various game design styles
(2) Application of ELA and Math in Video Game Design - Use ELA and Math concepts for web game development. (These skills will span the entirety of the course.)
(3) Ethical Decision Making - Analyze the impact of web game design on society. Analysis to include, but not limited to: • acceptable use • copyright laws • intellectual property • ethical conduct
- Confidentiality required by the design process (ethical conduct) | Unit: (4) Technology Applications, Problem Solving, and Efficiency - Write technology specifications and debug specific issues
- Utilize time management skills to plan work and insure completion
(5) Professional Communications - Utilize sound communication techniques (orally and in writing) to deliver informal and formal presentations
(6) Cyber Safety - Implement personal and professional safety. (These skills will span the entirety of the course.)
(7) Creating New Knowledge - Research skills and electronic communication by participating in on-line gaming. (With proper supervision)

(9) Leadership - Demonstrate leadership skills in group settings

- Develop coding with correct and efficient use of expressions.
- The student will be expected to use: • user-defined functions • proper operator precedence • sequential, conditional, and repetitive control structures
(11) Design Process and Video Game Design - Employ appropriate design processes to create and modify solutions to problems
- Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of computer hardware, software, and operating systems
- The student will be expected to: • combine graphics, images, and sound • apply the principles of design • develop and reference technical documentation • edit products | Unit: (12) Video Game Principles - Apply game design principles, elements, an techniques including, but not limited to: • script writing • character design • storyboarding • audio & delivery formats • motion paths • programming • interactivity • lighting & perspective • titles • credits • special effects
(13) Technology Concepts, Systems, and Operations - Identify basic game components and technology concepts such as: • the generation of random numbers • conditional statements • game engine • gameplay subsystems • data structures • models • interfaces • object-oriented game programming • event-driven programming • the role of game events • animation loops • triggers • timed events • collision detection • sprite collision • player progression
(14) Evaluation and Constructive Criticism - Presentation of an oral and written game design project to include: • identify the intended audience • describe aesthetics • explain the storyline • summarize subject matter • discuss the use of sound
