Grade 2 Music

Fall Semester

Students will sing tunefully or play classroom instruments including rhythmic and melodic patterns, independently or in groups.

Students will perform simple partwork (canon, ostinato) and practice vocal exploration, including singing, speaking, and chanting.

Students will play musical games and sing patriotic, folk and seasonal music.

Students will read, write, and reproduce pentatonic melodic patterns using standard staff notation.

Students will read, write, and reproduce music terminology including, forte and piano.  

Students will recognize known melodic elements in aural examples using known terminology.

Students will use known music terminology to explain musical examples of tempo including allegro and largo.

Students will read, write, and reproduce rhythmic patterns using standard notation in duple meter containing quarter notes, paired eighth notes, and quarter rest, half note, and half rest.

Students will recognize known rhythmic elements in aural examples using known terminology.

Students will identify instruments visually and aurally.

Students will play instruments from diverse styles and cultures independently or in groups.

Students will perform simple part-work including ostinatos.

Students will play classroom instruments including rhythmic and melodic patterns, independently or in groups.

Students will identify musical phrases and forms.

Students will examine short musical excerpts from various periods in history and diverse/local cultures.

Students will practice appropriate audience behavior.

Students will respond to music through movement alone and with others.

Spring  Semester

Students will sing songs from diverse styles and cultures independently or in groups.

Students will explore new musical ideas in phrases using a singing voice and classroom instruments.

Students will use music terminology to explain examples of dynamics (pianissimo, fortissimo)

Students will perform musical examples of dynamics (pianissimo and fortissimo)

Students will create melodic phrases using the Do Pentatonic scale in staff notation. (do, re, mi, so, la)

Students will recognize known melodic elements in aural examples using terminology

Students will read, write, and reproduce tempo (presto, allegro, moderato, andante, & largo)

Students will create musical phrases using known rhythms.

Students will identify choral voices including unison vs. ensemble

Students will play classroom instruments including rhythmic and melodic patterns independently and in groups. 

Students will create musical phrases using known rhythms and pitches on classroom instruments.

Students will identify interdisciplinary concepts related to music.

Students will distinguish rhythms, pitches, dynamics, tempos, and patterns in musical performances.

Students will respond to music verbally and through movement alone and with others.
