Grade 3 Music

Fall Semester

Students will sing with accurate intonation and rhythm independently and in groups.

Students will sing a varied repertoire of American folk songs and folk songs representative of local cultures independently and in groups.

Students will use known music symbols and terminology referring to melody, timbre, and dynamics to identify music aurally.

Students will read, write, and reproduce extended pentatonic melodic patterns using standard staff notation.

Students will perform part-work including melodic ostinatos derived from known repertoire.

Students will use known music symbols and terminology referring to rhythm and form to identify music aurally. 

Students will read, write, and reproduce rhythmic patterns in quadruple meter using standard notation including four sixteenth notes, whole note, and whole rest.

Students will perform part-work including rhythmic ostinatos derived from known repertoire.

Students will categorize and explain a variety of musical sounds, including those of children and adult voices.

Students will categorize and explain a variety of musical sounds including those of woodwind, brass, string, and percussion.

Students will play classroom instruments with accurate intonation and rhythm independently and in groups.

Students will identify and label musical forms presented aurally in simple songs and larger works.

Students will move alone or with others to a varied repertoire of music using gross motor, fine motor, locomotor, and non-locomotor skills and integrated movement.

Spring  Semester

Students will interpret through performance new and previously learned music symbols and terms referring to tempo and dynamics

Students will perform a varied repertoire of songs, movement, and musical games of American and local cultures

Students will identify new and previously learned music symbols and terms referring to dynamics including mezzo piano and mezzo forte. 

Students will create melodic phrases through improvisation and composition.

Students will recognize known melodic elements in aural examples using appropriate vocabulary.

Students will identify specific musical events in aural examples such as changes in timbre or dynamics using appropriate vocabulary.

Students will identify new and previously learned music symbols and terms referring to tempo.

Students will create rhythmic phrases through improvisation and composition. 

Students will recognize known rhythmic elements in aural examples using appropriate vocabulary.

Students will identify specific musical events in aural examples such as changes in form or tempo using appropriate vocabulary.

Students will categorize and explain a variety of musical sounds including instruments from various cultures.
