Understandings

Students learn the safety precautions for the gym environment and specialized activities. 

 

Students are introduced to the locker room and learn expectations for proper attire without prompting.

 

Students are introduced to respectful peer interactions and personal responsibility (Social-Emotional Learning), skills that will be reinforced throughout the year.

 

Students learn proper use of equipment and safety practices to prevent injury.

 

Students learn conflict resolution, demonstrate empathy, communicate effectively, and respect differences while working with peers.

Movement Patterns: 

• Throwing, catching, and hand/foot dribbling during dynamic play.

• Students will develop an understanding of correct jumping and landing techniques while building locomotor skill proficiency.

 

Performance Strategies:

• Offensive and defensive strategies in team settings.

• Spatial Awareness and navigating the field of play during game and sports.

• Students demonstrate appropriate sporting behavior with teammates and opponents. 

• Students provide and analyze constructive feedback to improve performance.

Students will learn fitness principles and components related to physical activity.
 

Students will learn basic nutrition and hydration information related to physical activity.

 

Students will learn how regular physical activity affects the body.

Students will learn how personal fitness goals are developed and how individual fitness plans are created with available technology.

Students will participate in activities that build health-related and skill-related fitness, apply FITT principles, monitor their own performance, and analyze fitness data to set personal goals while following safety practices.

Students learn movement and striking techniques to participate in net, wall, and target games. 

 

Students develop hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and demonstrate appropriate sportsmanship.

Students learn rhythmic movement patterns to improve coordination, timing, balance, and body control (e.g., jump rope, dance sequences, or rhythmic games).
 

Students participate in outdoor pursuits to develop physical skills, environmental awareness, and safe participation practices (e.g., rock wall climbing, archery, and mountain biking).
 

Students follow safety procedures and use equipment appropriately to prevent injury.
