Understandings

Students develop self-management skills that support lifelong wellness, including personal responsibility, respectful peer interaction, and safe participation. 

 

Students demonstrate proper equipment use, injury-prevention strategies, learn class routines, cooperative problem-solving skills, and cooperative game strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.

 

Students learn and demonstrate the selection and use of proper attire and safety equipment appropriate for physical activity settings.

 

Students demonstrate personal responsibility, respect for differences, effective communication, and appropriate behavior while resolving conflict and working collaboratively with peers.

Students apply movement skills and offensive and defensive strategies to sustain participation in team-based activities. 

 

Emphasis is placed on throwing, catching, dribbling, striking, spatial awareness, communication, and sportsmanship to support lifelong engagement in physical activity.

 

Students analyze movement, decision-making, and teamwork to achieve individual and team goals during dynamic game play.

 

Students demonstrate perseverance while addressing challenges, and provide and respond to constructive feedback to improve performance.

Students analyze the benefits of moderate to vigorous physical activity and apply FITT principles to improve health-related and skill-related fitness. 

 

Students create, monitor, and evaluate personal and collaborative fitness plans using performance data.

 

Students analyze nutrition and hydration choices to support physical performance and lifelong wellness.

 

Students demonstrate perseverance, self-management, and participate in self-selected activities for personal enjoyment and lifetime wellness.

Students apply offensive and defensive strategies in net, wall, and target activities, demonstrate responsible behavior, and provide constructive feedback to peers to improve performance.

 

Students resolve conflict effectively, communicate respectfully, and demonstrate sportsmanship.

Students perform rhythmic routines with advanced movement patterns while demonstrating coordination, timing, balance, and teamwork.

 

Students apply correct techniques and safety practices during outdoor and recreational pursuits, and persevere through physical challenges.
