Communities in Schools-SA (CIS) has a mission to surround students with a community of support that empowers them to stay in school and achieve in life. Based directly inside schools throughout Bexar County, CIS connects children and their families to basic and critical educational and community-based resources, tailored to each student’s specific needs. Abigail Crotts, also known as Miss Abi, is the Site Coordinator for Valley-Hi Elementary. Her role on campus is to support teachers, students and families in a variety of ways. She has a real passion to help students reach their fullest potential and help families stay connected and engaged.

Hello families, here are some fun ways to connect and engage as a family! Plus, additional CIS information.
TOPIC: Impulse Control
Playing a game is a fun way to actively work on stopping and thinking before you say or do something. It makes it even more challenging when it is a team game, like Jenga, where the goal is to work together to keep the tower standing!
PreK – 2nd Grade Families:
•Taking Turns: Children work on waiting their turn.
•Listening Comprehension/Following Directions: Telling which block to grab (Ex: “pull out the block from the third row middle”).
3rd-5th Grade Families:
•Share and Learn: Before playing write down questions for players to answer after pulling a block. Encourage children to open up and share things about themselves/their day in a non-threatening environment.
•Problem Solving/Planning: Discuss what piece to pull or what will happen if a specific piece was pulled.
